Taxi drivers, handymen, photographers, sales agents, artists at street fairs and many others, accepting payments on the go, now adopt iPhone as their credit card processing device.

Until recently it was all about the iPhone app, which enabled turning an iPhone into an online Virtual Terminal and accepting credit cards through an online merchant account. Such apps are: MerchantWARE Mobile, offered by Merchant Warehouse, mTerminal, offered by goemerchant, ProcessAway sold on iTunes, ePAYwireless offered by ePay Management and Innerfence.

It looks like technology is now turning iPhones into full swipe wireless terminals. Some companies are now offering very interesting alternatives: Square, enables a card swipe and offers an additional neat payer verification feature. PAYware Mobile by VeriFone, offers a card-reading case which ‘hugs’ the iPhone and even Mophie, until recently a known iPhone hardware provider now jumps into the credit card processing world.

These new iPhone gadgets should do much more than enable a card swipe. They should enable one to switch from an online merchant account to a retail merchant account. Using these new technologies, one should be able to move from Card Not Present (CNP) environment into the Card Present world and process credit cards in the lowest processing rates.
